Medicinal Cannabis Q&A with Dr Damree

Medicinal Cannabis Q&A with Dr Damree

Can you start by telling us a bit about your background and how you became involved in medicinal cannabis?

I’ve spent the past ten years working in intensive care units across the country. After a decade of hospital life and long shifts, I was ready for a change. I’ve always been drawn to frontier medicine, and medicinal cannabis offered the perfect balance between a fulfilling lifestyle and meaningful medical practice.

What first sparked your interest in cannabis as a therapeutic option?

Medicinal cbd is a rapidly growing and evolving field. While human research is still limited, many patients report remarkable improvements in their quality of life, and that’s what sparked my curiosity.

For those who might not be familiar, what exactly is medicinal cannabis and how does it differ from recreational use?

The goal of medicinal cbd is to help patients find the right balance between therapeutic benefit and everyday functionality. For this reason, we often prescribe formulations rich in non-psychoactive cannabinoids, valued for their ability to reduce inflammation and modulate pain. In contrast, recreational use typically focuses on a single cannabinoid, THC, which is responsible for the psychoactive effects.

What are the main conditions or symptoms that medicinal cannabis is prescribed for?

Common indications include insomnia, anxiety, chronic pain, and inflammatory or autoimmune conditions.

How do you decide which product or dose is right for a patient?

Every patient is different. For those new to cannabinoids, we take a “low and slow” approach to ensure safety and tolerance. For patients who are already familiar with cannabinoids, their responses tend to be more predictable. I also usually ask about a patient’s typical weight to help guide a safe starting dose.

What kind of results or improvements have you seen among your patients?

Above all, my patients report a noticeable improvement in their quality of life. This can come from reduced pain (not necessarily eliminated), better sleep, or increased joint mobility. Medicinal cbd is a highly personalised area of medicine, and building clear communication and strong rapport with patients is essential.

If you could share one message with the public about medicinal cannabis, what would it be?
