At One Health Clinics West End, we were proud to celebrate International Men’s Day this week—an important reminder of the need to support the wellbeing of men and boys in our community. November is also Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, and it’s a timely opportunity to start conversations, challenge stigma, and encourage men to seek help early. This month, we’re also highlighting the importance of mens mental health and creating space for meaningful discussions.
Why men’s mental health matters
Mental health concerns affect everyone, but men often face unique pressures and expectations. Many feel they need to “stay strong”, avoid burdening others, or push through issues alone. As a result, men may delay seeking help until they’re in crisis. In Australia, such hesitation contributes to heartbreaking statistics: men are still far more likely to die by suicide, and many struggle in silence with anxiety, depression, work-related stress, relationship pressures, and health challenges.
Breaking the Stigma
We want our clinic to be a safe and supportive space where men feel comfortable opening up. You don’t need to have all the answers before you reach out. Talking to your GP can be an important first step whether you’re navigating stress, noticing changes in your mood, or simply haven’t been feeling like yourself lately.
Our doctors take the time to listen without judgement. You won’t be rushed through your appointment, and your concerns will be taken seriously. We understand that mental health is just as important as physical health, and early support can make a significant difference.
What we can help with
Our team can support men with:
- Low mood, anxiety, or stress
- Sleep difficulties
- Relationship or family pressures
- Work-related burnout
- Substance use concerns
- Preventive health checks and long-term wellbeing planning
We can also help with Mental Health Treatment Plans, which can make sessions with a psychologist more affordable through Medicare rebates.
You’re not alone
This November, we encourage all men, fathers, partners, sons, brothers, colleagues, and friends to prioritise their mental wellbeing. Checking in with yourself is a sign of strength, not weakness.
If you or someone you love needs support, our team at One Health Clinics West End is here to help. Your mental health matters, and taking the first step could make all the difference.
